Italian Bread and Biscuits Recipes - Focaccia Bread (Focaccia) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 450 g/4 cups strong white (bread) flour

  • 5 ml/1 tsp salt

  • 1 packet easy-blend dried yeast

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp olive oil

  • 150 ml/2/3 cup hand-hot water

  • Oil for greasing and glazing


Method:

  1. Sift the flour and salt into a bowl and stir in the yeast. Stir in the oil. Mix with enough water to form a soft dough.

  2. Turn the dough on to a floured board and knead for 10 minutes. Return the dough to the bowl and cover with Clingfilm (plastic wrap).

  3. Allow to rise for 2 hours in a warm place. When the dough has doubled its size, knead again for 2 minutes.

  4. Form into two round loaf shapes and place on a baking sheet. Set aside for 30 minutes.

  5. Brush with olive oil and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C/400°F/gas mark 6 for 30 minutes.

  6. Turn out and cool on a wire rack before serving.
