Italian Desserts Recipes - Fig Slices (Fette di Fichi) Recipe

Ingredients                                     

  • 6 fresh figs, chopped

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp clear honey

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 225 g/8 oz/2 cups whole meal flour

  • 225 g/8 oz/2 cups rolled oats

  • 225 g/8 oz/1 cup unsalted (sweet) butter

  • 75 g/3 oz/1/3 cup light brown sugar


Method:

  1. Place the figs, honey and lemon juice in a saucepan and simmer over a low heat for 5 minutes. Allow to cool slightly.

  2. Mix the flour and oats together in a bowl and rub in the butter and sugar.

  3. Press half of the mixture into a shallow greased 20 cm/8 in square tin (pan).

  4. Spread the fig mixture on top and cover with the remaining flour mixture.

  5. Press down firmly and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C/350°F/gas mark 4 for 30 minutes until golden brown.

  6. Cut into slices while still warm but leave to cool in the tin before serving.
