Italian Meat Recipes - Florentine Steak (Bistecca alla Fiorentina) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 large sirloin or rump steaks

  • 5 ml/1 tsp olive oil

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp chopped fresh oregano

  • 2 large tomatoes, skinned, seeded and chopped

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper


Method:

  1. Heat the grill (broiler) and brush the steaks with the oil. Lay the steaks on the rack and cook for 3 minutes on one side until the meat is sealed.

  2. Meanwhile, simmer the oregano and tomatoes together in a saucepan. Turn over the meat and season well.

  3. Cook the meat for 3 minutes. Remove from the grill, pour over the sauce and serve immediately. The meat can also be cooked on a barbecue.
