Milanese Steak (Bistecca Milanese)

Ingredients

6 rump or sirloin
steaks
-
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

15 ml/1
tbsp plain (all-purpose) flour
-
30 ml/2 tbsp olive
oil
-
25 g/1 oz/2 tbsp
unsalted (sweet) butter
-
1 onion, chopped
-
6 large tomatoes,
skinned and sliced
-
10 ml/2 tsp chopped fresh parsley
-
1.5 ml/1/4 tsp fennel
seeds
Method:
-
Pound the steaks out thinly and dip them in well-seasoned flour.

Heat the
olive oil in a frying pan (skillet) with the butter.
Add the onion and cook for 1 minute.

Brown the
steaks on both sides and cover them with the sliced
tomatoes.

Simmer for 5 minutes and add the parsley
and the fennel seeds. Cook for 8-10 minutes until
the meat is tender.
