Italian Meat Recipes - Milanese Steak (Bistecca Milanese) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 6 rump or sirloin steaks

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp plain (all-purpose) flour

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp olive oil

  • 25 g/1 oz/2 tbsp unsalted (sweet) butter

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 6 large tomatoes, skinned and sliced

  • 10 ml/2 tsp chopped fresh parsley

  • 1.5 ml/1/4 tsp fennel seeds


Method:

  1. Pound the steaks out thinly and dip them in well-seasoned flour.

  2. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan (skillet) with the butter. Add the onion and cook for 1 minute.

  3. Brown the steaks on both sides and cover them with the sliced tomatoes.

  4. Simmer for 5 minutes and add the parsley and the fennel seeds. Cook for 8-10 minutes until the meat is tender.
