Italian Pasta Recipes - Pasta with Meat Sauce (Pasta con Salsa di Manzo) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp oil

  • 225 g/8 oz/2 cups lean minced (ground) beef

  • 600 ml/2 1/2 cups beef stock

  • 400 g/14 oz/1 large can chopped tomatoes

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

  • 275 g/10 oz pasta shells

  • Grated cheese (optional), to serve

Method:

  1. Fry (sauté) the onions and garlic in the oil until translucent but not brown. Add the beef and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring.

  2. Blend in the remaining ingredients and wok uncovered for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. Cover and simmer for 40 minutes and season to taste. Bring a large pan of salted water to the boil and cook the pasta for 10-12 minutes.

  4. Drain and pour into a hot serving dish. Pour over the beef sauce and serve immediately with grated cheese, if liked.
