Italian Pasta Recipes - Spaghetti Meat Pie (Pasticcio di Spaghetti con Carne) Recipe

Ingredients                 

  • 450 g/1lb stewing beef, trimmed of excess fat

  • 1 onion, halved

  • 75 g/3 oz Bel Paese cheese, diced

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp chopped fresh basil

  • 2 eggs

  • 225 g/8 oz spaghetti

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

  • 25 g/1 oz/2 tbsp unsalted (sweet) butter  


Method:

  1. Put the meat and onion through a mincer (grinder). Spoon into a bowl and add the cheese, basil and eggs.

  2. Bring a pan of salted water to the boil and add the spaghetti. Cook for 10 minutes until tender but still firm.

  3. Drain and stir in the meat and onion mixture. Season well. Turn into a greased, ovenproof dish and dot with pieces of butter.

  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C/ 350°F/gas mark 4 for 25 minutes.
