Italian Pizza Recipes - Anchovy Pizza (Pizza alle Napoletana) Recipe

Ingredients       

  • 1 quantity Basic Pizza Dough

  • 100 ml/6 1/2 tbsp passata (sieved tomatoes)

  • 50 g/2 oz button mushrooms, sliced

  • 100 g/4 oz Mozzarella cheese, chopped

  • 50g/1 small can anchovies, drained and roughly chopped

  • 30ml/2 tbsp olive oil

  • 10ml/2 tsp capers (optional)

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper


Method:

  1. Prepare the pizza dough. Spread the risen pizza round with the passata to within 2 cm/3/4 in of the edge all round.

  2. Sprinkle the cheese over and scatter with pieces of anchovy. Drizzle with olive oil, scatter the capers over, if using, and season with pepper.

  3. Bake in a preheated oven at 230C/450F/gas mark 8 for about 10-15 minutes until the edges are crisp and golden.
