Italian Pizza Recipes - The Original Pizza (Pizza alla Marinara) Recipe

Ingredients       

Topping:

  • 120 ml/1/2 cup passata (sieved tomatoes)

  • 2.5 ml/1/2 tsp dried oregano

  • 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp chopped fresh basil

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp olive oil

  • 175 g/6 oz Mozzarella cheese, sliced

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

  • 10 black olives, stoned (pitted)


Method:

  1. Place the pizza base on a baking sheet. Spread the passata over. Scatter over the oregano, garlic and basil.

  2. Sprinkle with the olive oil and cover with the Mozzarella. Season well with salt and pepper. Dot with the olives.

  3. Bake in a preheated oven at 240°C/475°F/gas mark 9 for 10 minutes until the crust around the edges of the pizza is crisp and the Mozzarella is melted. Serve in wedges.
