Italian Snacks and Light Meals Recipes - Cheese on Toast (Formaggio al Forno) Recipe

 

Ingredients

  • 100 g/4 oz hard cheese, chopped

  • 75 ml/5 tbsp white wine

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp chopped fresh basil

  • Freshly ground black pepper

  • 4 thick slices bread

  • 5 ml/1 tsp unsalted (sweet) butter


Method:

  1. Place the cheese in an ovenproof dish. Blend the wine with the chopped basil.

  2. Pour the wine over the cheese and season generously with the pepper.

  3. Place in a preheated oven at 200°C/400°F/gas mark 6 for 10 minutes until golden and bubbling.

  4. Meanwhile, remove the crusts from the bread, toast and butter the slices.

  5. Spoon the cooked cheese on to each slice of toast.
